2022 Canadian Conference on Global Health
In case you missed it, CAGH will be hosting the 28th Canadian Conference on Global Health (CCGH) from November 21-23 2022. This year's conference 'Towards Inclusive Global Health: Research and Practice Priorities in Uncertain Times' will be taking place at the Hilton Toronto hotel in Downtown Toronto. CCGH 2022 will be presented in a hybrid format and offer both in-person and virtual access. Stay tuned for the call for abstracts, program and registration details. Canada Pavilion at the 2022 AIDS Conference
CAGH is pleased to announce it is leading the design, development, and implementation of the Canada Pavilion at the 24th International AIDS Conference set to take place in Montreal and virtually from July 29th to August 2, 2022. This year’s conference theme is: 'Re-engage and follow the science'. CAGH will be offering up to 150 community scholarships to individuals interested in attending the in-person and virtual conference. These scholarships will cover conference-related expenses and allow individuals to share the knowledge they gain with their communities and networks. Stay tuned for more details coming soon. Digital Story Telling for Global Health Research and Action
A project proposed by the partnership between CAGH, the University of Calgary, Common Language Digital Storytelling, and Mabarara University of Science and Technology has been one of three selected for the 2022 CanWaCH Collaborative. The "Digital Story Telling for Global Health Research and Action" project will investigate and incubate effective and ethical use of Digital Story Telling (DST) in a Global Health context applicable for research purposes.
Through this first phase (April 2022 - March 2023), the project will investigate experiences of up to 50 storytellers in rural southwest Uganda to inform potential DST packaging specific to global health. It will also incubate the DST approach with CAGH members through a needs assessment survey and follow up discussions to assess interest, potential uptake, and needed adaptations for scale-up. CAGH will be in contact with you, our members, in the coming months with opportunities to become involved and/or learn more about DST and this project!

13th International Conference on the Maternal & Child Health Handbook
The 2022 MCH Handbook Committee invites you to its upcoming 13th International Conference on the Maternal & Child Health (MCH) Handbook at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, Canada on August 24 - 25, 2022. The conference theme is “Making Me Visible” and will aim to promote health equity, support social inclusion, and bring the health of mothers and their children to the forefront of the world. Following the current public health situation, the conference will be a hybrid experience, offering limited in-person places. More information can be found on the MCH Handbook's website. Team Canada Summer of Action – ONE
Join ONE as they continue advocating for inequities linked to the COVID-19 vaccine distribution, climate, and conflict crises and their aftershocks and lobby in support of the Global Fund Replenishment (GF). The GF is a much-needed US$18 billion leadership commitment that could alter the trajectories of mortality and incidence of AIDS, TB and malaria by 2030.

MentorNet Program Liaisons – Canadian Association for Global Health (CAGH)
CAGH's MentorNet Program is seeking new members to join the steering committee and take on the role of program liaison. Successful candidates will contribute to the planning and execution of the MentorNet program. They will be responsible for developing subject-specific modules, creating meaningful and supportive relationships with their mentor-SYP pairs, collaborating on the program’s strategic deliverables (results-based management tools, media/communications materials etc), and contributing to the overall running of the program. CAGH is seeking resources from individuals and/or organizations to support the Canada Pavilion at AIDS 2022. The content will be uploaded onto the Resource Hub which houses research, program, and policy highlights to shed light on the strength, innovation and community behind Canada’s HIV and STBBI response. Those interested are welcomed to submit resources reflective of the Canada Pavilion tagline "Science. Solidarity. Support.". Accepted formats include videos, documents, digital art pieces and more. |

Post-Doctoral Fellow, Disability Inclusive Development, School of Rehabilitation Therapy – Queen’s University The Postdoctoral Fellow will collaborate with the partner institutions and community partner organizations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana and Canada to initiate, develop, and implement collaborative research projects in health equity to address key community issues for persons with disabilities and their families. Climate Change and Health Webinar Series
The CAGH Working Group on Climate Change and Health was delighted to partner with CoPEH-Canada to present a webinar on Innovation Transformed by Participatory Action led by Mumbi Maina and Lily Raphael, of the ‘Transforming Cities from Within’ facilitation team. The conversation outlined their key learnings from facilitating a learning journey for municipal Government staff to tackle challenges related to climate, equity and decolonization.

University Advisory Council (UAC)
The University Advisory Council has been busy this spring. Through our In Conversation webinar series, institutional members have had the opportunity to engage in candid, informal conversations with Dr. John Dusabe-Richards, Director of Global Health at IDRC and Dr. Charu Kaushic, the Scientific Director for the CIHR Institute for Infection and Immunity.
On June 3, 2022, the UAC held an emerging issues round table conversation for members to discuss concerns about the impacts of delays at Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for international graduate students and post-doctoral fellows who are studying/working in Canada or plan to soon--many of whom are part of our global health research community. These delays pose real consequences for people whose stipends, scholarships or salaries are affected, on freedom to travel, and on capacity to continue in their programs.
We recognize this is an equity issue and that those of us who are in positions of privilege may be able to help if we can stand beside students and colleagues to advocate for action. In follow-up to our conversation, we are preparing an open letter calling for greater transparency in the visa and work permit application process and the granting of an automatic 12-month grace period for those individuals who are currently in Canada. The letter and more details will be circulated for signatures soon. |

Pavillon du Canada à AIDS 2022: la 24e Conférence internationale sur le sida
L'ACSM est ravie d’annoncer qu’elle dirige la conception, le développement et la mise en œuvre du Pavillon du Canada à AIDS 2022, la 24e Conférence internationale sur le sida prévu pour avoir lieu à Montréal et virtuellement du 29 juillet au 2 août 2022. Le thème de la conférence est : « Re-mobilisation et application de la science ».
L'ACSM offrira jusqu'à 150 bourses communautaires aux personnes souhaitant assister à la conférence en personne ou virtuellement. Ces bourses couvriront les frais liés à la conférence et permettront aux individus de partager les connaissances acquises avec leurs communautés et leurs réseaux.

Récits numériques pour la recherche et l’action en santé mondiale
Un projet proposé par le partenariat entre l'ACSM, l'Université de Calgary, Common Language Digital Storytelling et l'Université des sciences et de la technologie de Mabarara a été l'un des trois sélectionnés pour la Collaboration CanSFE 2022. Le projet « Récits numériques pour la recherche et l’action en santé mondiale » étudiera et incubera l'utilisation efficace et éthique des récits numériques (DST) dans un contexte de santé mondiale applicable à des objectifs de recherche.
Au cours de cette première phase (avril 2022 - mars 2023), le projet étudiera les expériences d'un maximum de 50 conteurs et conteuses d'histoires dans le sud-ouest rural de l'Ouganda afin d'informer sur le conditionnement potentiel des DST spécifique à la santé mondiale. Il incubera également l'approche DST avec les membres de l'ACSM par le biais d'un sondage d'évaluation des besoins et de discussions de suivi afin d'évaluer l'intérêt, l'adoption potentielle et les adaptations nécessaires pour la mise à l'échelle. L'ACSM vous contactera, vous, ses membres, dans les mois à venir pour vous proposer de vous impliquer et/ou pour en apprendre plus sur les DST et ce projet ! |

13e Conférence internationale sur le manuel de santé maternelle et infantile
Le comité du manuel SMI 2022 vous invite à sa 13e conférence internationale sur le manuel de santé maternelle et infantile (SMI) qui se tiendra à l'école de santé publique Dalla Lana de l'Université de Toronto, au Canada, les 24 et 25 août 2022. Le thème de la conférence est « Me rendre visible » et visera à promouvoir l'équité en matière de santé, à soutenir l'inclusion sociale et à mettre la santé des mères et de leurs enfants au premier plan à l'échelle mondiale. Le programme MentorNet de l'ACSM est à la recherche de nouveaux membres pour se joindre au comité directeur et assumer le rôle de liaison du programme. Les individus retenus contribueront à la planification et à l'exécution du programme MentorNet. Ils/elles seront responsables du développement de modules spécifiques à un sujet, de la création de relations significatives et de soutien avec leurs paires mentor-ÉJP, de la collaboration aux livrables stratégiques du programme (outils de gestion axés sur les résultats, matériel de communication/médias, etc.) et de la contribution au fonctionnement général du programme. Série de webinaires sur le changement climatique et la santé
Le groupe de travail de l'ACSM sur le changement climatique et la santé a été ravi de s'associer à CoPEH-Canada pour présenter un webinaire anglophone sur l'innovation transformée par l'action participative. Dirigée par Mumbi Maina et Lily Raphael de l'équipe de facilitation « Transformer les villes de l'intérieur », la conversation a souligné les principaux enseignements tirés de la facilitation d'un parcours d'apprentissage pour le personnel du gouvernement municipal afin de relever les défis liés au climat, à l'équité et à la décolonisation.

Conseil consultatif universitaire (CCU)
Le Conseil consultatif universitaire a été très occupé ce printemps. Grâce à notre série de webinaires « In Conversation », les membres institutionnels ont eu l'occasion de participer à des conversations franches et informelles avec le Dr John Dusabe-Richards, directeur de la santé mondiale au CRDI et la Dre Charu Kaushic, directrice scientifique de l'Institut des maladies infectieuses et immunitaires des IRSC.
Le 3 juin 2022, le CCU a organisé une table ronde sur les nouvelles questions pour les membres afin de discuter de leurs préoccupations concernant les impacts des retards à Immigration, Réfugiés et Citoyenneté Canada (IRCC) pour les étudiants(es) et diplômés(es) et les boursiers(ères) post doctoraux internationaux qui étudient/travaillent au Canada ou prévoient le faire bientôt - dont beaucoup font partie de notre communauté de recherche en santé mondiale. Ces retards ont des conséquences réelles pour les personnes dont les allocations, les bourses ou les salaires sont affectés, sur la liberté de voyager et sur la capacité de poursuivre leurs programmes.
Nous reconnaissons qu'il s'agit d'une question d'équité et que ceux d'entre nous qui sommes en position de privilège peuvent être en mesure d'aider si nous nous tenons aux côtés des étudiants et étudiantes et des collègues pour plaider en faveur de l'action. Suite à notre conversation, nous préparons une lettre ouverte demandant une plus grande transparence dans le processus de demande de visa et de permis de travail et l'octroi d'une période de grâce automatique de 12 mois pour les personnes qui se trouvent actuellement au Canada. La lettre et plus de détails seront bientôt distribués pour signature. |
